Trail Camera: Bear & Three Cubs

KNLT has been documenting wildlife with trail cameras along Pine Mountain. The cameras are placed in strategic locations and have resulted into some wonderful photos and videos. This fall we captured footage of an American black bear mother and her three cubs near Blanton Forest State Nature Preserve.

Black bears were extirpated from Kentucky by the late 19th century due to over hunting and habitat loss. The bears found their way back to the state primarily via Pine Mountain. The intact forests of the mountain offer suitable habitat for bears, as well as, thousands of other species. Here is a gallery of some of the species we’ve captured on our trail cameras:
